Raggtopp

Protectant for your cloth top

Introduction 4months 7 months 15 months conclusion

4 Months

On your C6, the top is made from a fiber called "Twillfast II", manufactured by Haartz. Haartz recommends using Raggtopp cleaner and protectant to maintain your top, so that is all I have used. I cleaned the top with their cleaner as soon as I bought the car, then applied 3 coats of Protectant. It continued to bead water superbly for 18 total months. At 18 months I saw some minor wetting of the corners of the roof, so I decided it was time to re-treat. But I'm very happy with the durability of this product.

For maintenance, all I've done is to use a lint remover to get dust off the roof, and when washing just spray the roof off with a hose. The water just slides off, and I'm left with a clean roof. No fading, no dinginess. I do not scrub the roof with any detergent or soap, and this may be what gave me such great durability.

Here are some photos of the car dry, after about 4 months. You can see that there is no phony sheen or gloss. The fabric looks perfectly natural.

7 Months

Now, 7 months after initial application of the protectant, with no upkeep other than rinsing with a hose when I washed the car, here is the appearance of the top after a rainstorm. Still beading the water nicely, with no visible wetting of the cloth.

At 15 months, the beading is still strong.

Conclusion

At 18 months (no more pictures taken), I finally did see some wetting of the corners of the roof after a good wash, so I decided to end the experiment and reapply.

I cleaned the top with their cleaner, using the Helpmate © brush, then waited until the roof was completely dry. Then I applied 3 new coats of the protectant.

So if anyone asks: "How long does Raggtopp last?" - the answer is 18 months, at least under my driving conditions. A great product. Get it at Autogeek.

Also - Raggtopp will not hurt your paint, nor your windows, but it will leave smearing, so it's just common sense to prevent this overspray problem, at least on the paint. Just cover the painted surfaces with a beach towel while you are spraying the protectant. You can get the towel underneath the roof by unlatching the roof and lifting it up, of course. Don't bother masking off the windows with tape - if any spray gets on them, it comes right off with window cleaner.
