If you are interested in FI errors, then you most definitely should install your dealer mode switch first. Without a dealer mode switch, you have no way of getting the error code from your ECM.
The ECM will try to tell you if any of the various sensors on the bike are malfunctioning. This can be because of a dirty electrical contact, a rusted wire connection, a loose sensor, or an absolutely fried and failed component that needs to be replaced. When the ECM does not get back an "all is well" signal from any of the various parts of the bike's circuitry, the computer knows something is wrong. It will tell you this by
Once you have installed your dealer mode switch, all you have to do is press the switch and the actual number code for the problem will display on your instrument panel. We call this the "FI error code". FI error codes are always in the form of a "C" followed by a number, such as "C46" (shown at right, which is a problem with the exhaust control valve actuator).
Below is a list of the error codes you may see, and what they mean. Click on these thumbnails for the full page images. These error codes will not tell you exactly what the problem is, but at least it will narrow it down for you. You'll see that most things which set off an error code are easily fixed by the beginner with little mechanical expertise, just by using these tables and your GSXR shop manual. Knowing the error code is enough to tell you where to start your investigation. This will save you many unnecessary trips to the dealer.
