I know, I'm pretty insane. I've gone a little bit too far with electrical mods on the bike. Well, if you're even a little bit like me, eventually you'll have more switches than you know what to do with.
There's very limited space on the bike where you can mount them. So this was my solution.
I originally had a small strip of aluminum I just painted, drilled, and then tied up under the gauges, using zip ties. This was just a straight piece of aluminum, with no bends in it. If you just paint it black, and mount it with black zip ties, the appearance is not too bad.
Later I had to add more switches, so I got a bigger piece of aluminum. This time I added the bends that you see indicated in my diagram. With these bends, it allows room for the back of the switches to poke through without being squashed against the gauge cluster.
First I just polished the aluminum and mounted it to see how it looked. It's cool how easily you can polish a piece of aluminum to a mirror finish. But unfortunately this shows the zip ties and gives the bike a ghetto look. So I took it off and painted it.
It looks better if you paint it. I couldn't think of a good way to mount it other than zip ties. But if everything is black, they don't stand out too badly.
Just get a short piece of aluminum at the local hardware store. will cost about $2. You can cut it with a jigsaw or hacksaw to the proper length. Then using a vice, you can make the right angle bends as shown. Drill holes for mounting, paint it flat black, and you're done.
By the Way,
Those last two switches are mods that no properly equipped Gixxer is without. I could give you further details, but then I'd have to kill you.... It's all pretty standard, really.....
Alright - those last two switches are for flashing lights I rigged through my turn signal mirrors. Eventually I took them down.
Sure you might be able to come up with something better - and if you do, shoot me an email with a picture!
